Zoolander 2 premiere: Ben Stiller snaps up Guinness World Records title for longest selfie stick
Last night's London premiere of Zoolander 2 saw actor and director Ben Stiller snap up a new world record in true Derek Zoolander style, with the Hollywood star taking the title for the world’s Longest selfie stick.
The attempt took place on the red carpet (which was actually blue as a tribute to the character’s notorious blue steel gaze), under the watchful eye of official Guinness World Records adjudicator Mark McKinley.
measuring the selfie sticks
Measuring an extraordinary 8.56 metres (28 ft 1 inch), the selfie device was more than eight times longer than the average stick, with its middle section fashioned out of an eight metre long window cleaning pole.
Tensions were high as the pole swayed in the wind while the stars, including Penelope Cruz, Owen Wilson, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell and co-writer Justin Theroux, posed down below.
However, our adjudicator was able to award the record and presented Ben Stiller with a certificate in front of the celebrity guests and fans.

To achieve the title, the monopod had to be proven to function in the same way a standard selfie stick does, and a valid self-portrait photograph needed to be taken.
The selfie
This record attempt proved a perfect way to mark the release of the sequel to Stiller’s 2001 comedy, which sees endearingly foolish and overconfident models Zoolander and Hansel (Owen Wilson) battle to thwart a conspiracy to assassinate the world's most beautiful people.
