Southern Kaduna killings: Details of El-Rufai’s meeting with Sultan emerge



- The governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed the details of his meeting with the Sultan of Sokoto

- El-Rufai said the monarch advised him on how to ensure lasting peace amid the attacks in Southern Kaduna

- The Sultan was also reported to have expressed support on the efforts used to bring peace to Kaduna

Details of Governor Nasir El-Rufai's meeting with Sultan of Sokoto, HRH Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Monday, August 24, have emerged as the latter briefed newsmen.

According to The Nation, discussions during the closed-door meeting held at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in the state capital between El-Rufai and the monarch were on the killings in Southern Kaduna.

Speaking with newsmen after the meeting, the Sultan only said he came to visit his brother.

However, El-Rufai noted that the northern ruler was in Kaduna to advise him on how to ensure lasting peace in Southern Kaduna following the incessant attacks.

According to the governor, Abubakar expressed happiness that tactics at promoting peace in the state were suggested by various religious and ethnic groups.

He went on to note that the monarch guided him while expressing support for the state government's efforts at bringing peace to the northern state.

The governor prayed that the Sultan’s visit would mark the start of lasting peace in Southern Kaduna.

Earlier, Legit.ngreported that the Sultan of Sokoto visited Governor El-Rufai , barely 24 hours after the former Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi met with the state leader.
The Sultan on Monday, August 24, arrived around 12:20 pm in a black SUV at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House.

The monarch upon his arrival was received by officials including the secretary to the state government, the chief of staff, and Kaduna state commissioner internal security and home affairs.


In other news, barely five months after he was given a marching order as the Emir of Kano state, Muhammadu Sanusi II on Sunday, August 23, returned to the north.

The former emir arrived Kaduna state amid fanfare as a crowd of supporters joined his motorcade in euphoria as he headed to the Kaduna state government house.

The arrival of the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was announced by Governor El-Rufai on his Twitter page.

Sanusi had faulted the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) for withdrawing an invitation previously extended to El-Rufai to attend its annual general conference.
