REPRISAL!! Police Go On Rampage Over Killings Of SARS Officers, Burning Of Vehicles - Arrests 22 Persons

The Police in Rivers State on Friday said it arrested 22 persons in connection with the killing of a policeman in the Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Port Harcourt.

Some unidentified hoodlums on Wednesday at 9.30pm attacked a police station in the community and killed a cop and also burnt an operational vehicle.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, added that peace had been restored to the council area following the attack.

Omoni noted that the state Commissioner of Police Joseph Mukan, had ordered an investigation into the incident and security beefed up in the area to restore law and order.



He said,“Our SARS office in Oyigbo was attacked. We lost one of our personnel and our patrol vehicle was burnt. We have arrested 22 suspects in connection with the incident and investigation is ongoing.

We have also stabilised the area and security beefed up.”



Meanwhile, a youth leader in the community, who identified himself only as Nwachuckwu, absolved youths in the community youths of the crime, saying that they couldn’t carry out such damage.

He said, “We learnt that some hoodlums attacked a police station in Oyigbo, burnt an operational vehicle and killed a cop. If you check in the history of Rivers State, we have never surrendered arms before so what is happening is strange and affecting us.



“We are not happy about it. But I know that indigenes of Oyigbo are innocent of what is happening. We advise the security agencies to more investigation to discover what
